Optional Rules To Play With

Hello all! Thought I'd give you a little preview of what's coming next for Nightcrawlers!

During development of the game, some rules came and went because I felt they either weren't very strong, I couldn't get them right, or they just weren't tested. I've detailed the more choice ones that will appear in an upcoming zine I am currently working on (!!!).

Let me know what you think of these, and feel free to use them to develop your own house rules!

Alternate Death Rules
If you want kindred to be able to return from the dead easily, use these rules. Note that these rules give Mortals even more of a disadvantage, but they can still use Humanity as normal.

When a character is normally Splattered, they are considered to be dying instead of merely unconscious. If the character is not healed within a Minute, the character dies.

If they are not a Mortal, they roll a d8 on the Splatter table to see how well they regenerate the following night. If they survive, they gain 1d4 HP upon awakening.

If they are a Mortal or their body (or fetter for Ghosts) is completely destroyed, the character is lost forever!

Original Damage And Health
These rules provide a more even playing field between broods but also eliminate things that make the broods distinctive.

All broods have a Hit Die of d6 and start with d6+4 HP. All weapons deal d6 damage (or d4 if unarmed or improvised). Enemies also have d6 HD, but their damage is the same.

Degrading Humanity
If you would rather play with humanity being a spiral downwards, use these rules. They incorporate something of a press your luck mechanic as well

All characters have a d4 Humanity Die. When they perform an inhuman or immoral act (what that means is up to the CP), they roll their Humanity Die.

On a 1-2, it increases a step. If you roll a 1-2 on a Humanity Die of d20, the character becomes a feral monster. Roll a new character.

The Humanity Die can be decreased as normal through heroic acts (usually a step), but it can never go below d4.

Characters can also willingly roll their Humanity Die to obtain any benefit normally obtained from spending a Humanity Point.

Mortals automatically decrease their Humanity Die a step when they gain a level (to a minimum of d4).

Bloodier Combat
Use these rules if you want combat to be even more violent.

When you score a critical hit, roll on the Splatter Table in addition to dealing double damage.
